Nationwide Fisheries AssessmentInsights to Inform North Carolina’s Coastal Strategy
To strengthen North Carolina’s approach to fisheries management, NCMEF launched a comprehensive Nationwide Assessment in 2021. By interviewing senior fisheries leaders from 20 coastal states, the Foundation gathered valuable insights on regulatory tools such as gamefish designations, limited entry, stocking, quotas, and gear restrictions—informing a smarter path forward for our own coastal waters.
Refining NC’s Fisheries Strategy with Insights from Coastal States’ Leaders
On June 25, 2021, the Foundation reached a significant milestone by unveiling its Nationwide Assessment. This monumental step initiated comprehensive research into coastal resource management practices, covering key topics such as limited entry, gamefish designations, stocking programs, gear prohibitions, quota allocations, and dredging applications. To support this work, the Foundation and its research partners conducted in-depth interviews with senior fisheries administrators from 20 of 23 coastal states, including chiefs, directors, commissioners, and other key leaders.
