In 2021, the NC Marine & Estuary Foundation launched its Nationwide Assessment, a landmark research effort into coastal resource management. Through interviews with senior fisheries leaders from 20 coastal states, the study examined key regulatory tools such as gamefish designations, limited entry, stocking programs, quotas, gear restrictions, and dredging to chart a smarter path forward for North Carolina’s coastal waters.
